The Vancouver Canucks played their biggest game of the season and the score had nothing to do with why everybody was there. It was all about “Twin Magic” on this night.

Thursday night the Canucks fans came out in full support in the team’s final home game of the 2017-18 campaign. Just a week ago many were conflicted if they should lose out to get a better draft position while others still wanted to win.

On this night though, a win or a loss didn’t matter. The fans were there to salute and say thank you to Henrik and Daniel Sedin in their final home game of their NHL careers.

Arizona quieted the crowd just over three minutes into the game when Christian Fischer scored the games opening goal. However, they were not quiet very long because the next time the twins hit the ice the roar went up again. Every time they touched the ice everybody in British Columbia knew from how loud the home crowd got.

The fans were rewarded early in the second when number 22 Daniel scored his 22nd goal of the year with #33 Henrik picking up the secondary assist at the 33 second mark. But, the Coyotes would score two to close out the period, holding a 3-1 lead.

As the teams hit the ice for the third period the crowd welcomed the Sedins with the Viking clap, which they would do multiple times through the final period.

That energy must have filtered into the Canucks bench because before the halfway mark of the third they had tied the game at three on goals from Jake Virtanen and Brendan Leipsic which sent the teams to overtime.

If the night wasn’t already magical enough, Henrik would set up Daniel at the 2:33 mark of overtime for the game winning goal on the power play.

We’re not sure, but the roof on Rogers Arena might have been blown off when that goal went in from the crowd’s eruption.

While this will be debated for many years to come, the Sedin twins will probably go down as two of the greatest Vancouver Canucks players in franchise history. But, as Dr. Seuss once wrote, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened!”
