UPDATE: UCLA Basketball Players Leaving China

Three UCLA basketball players, including LiAngelo Ball, detained last week on suspicion of shoplifting in China are on their way back to the Sates on Tuesday.

The trio were seen at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport, checking into a Delta flight bound for Los Angeles.

This comes just hours after President Donald Trump said he intervened with China President Xi Jinping to resolve the case.

Ball and his fellow Bruins freshmen, Jalen Hall and Cody Riley, were detained a week ago after a reported theft of sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton boutique in the city of Hangzhou. The three did not play in UCLA’s game against Georgia Tech and were confined to the team’s hotel.

It looks like the matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities, but it is unknown what the resolution is.

It is expected that all three players, as well as UCLA coach Steve Alford and Athletic Director Dan Guerrero will provide statements to the media on Wednesday. What many want to know is what if any additional punishment the school will hand out to the players, if any.
