How Sweep It Is

The McMaster Marauders volleyball teams hit the court on Friday night for the first time in 2018, taking on the Brock Badgers to open the weekend.

The women opened this year up the same way they closed it, with an emphatic win, defeating the Badgers 25-15, 25-11 and 25-21 to improve to 7-1 on the season which places them atop the OUA West standings.

Aleks Arsovic led all players on the court with nine kills and picked up 14 points. Not far behind her was Jill Eisenhauer who chipped in 10.5 points of her own.

On the defensive side of the ball Carly Heath posted 11 digs while Caitlin Genovy had 28 of McMaster’s 29 assists.

While the Marauder ladies were hitting on 34 percent of their hits, they held Brock to just three percent.

The men were up next and just like the ladies, they were able to roll past the visiting Badgers, sweeping the match by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-16.

McMaster would use 13 different players in this game, getting their second unit in.

Before he was subbed out, Brandon Koppers picked up 17.5 points, leading all players on the floor. The next closest Marauders to Koppers for points was Craig Ireland and Matt Passalent who each had six points. Koppers would also add 14 kills to his totals and be credited with three and a half blocks.

Late in the match, Mateusz Wlodarski entered the game to make is OUA debut and would pick up his first career point.

Both Marauders teams will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Windsor Lancers at the Burridge Gym. First serve for the women’s match is at 6:00 PM while the men are scheduled to start at 8:00 PM.

Prior to Saturday’s volleyball matches, the McMaster basketball teams will also be in action at the Burridge Gym when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. The women’s game tips off at noon with the men scheduled to go at 2:00 PM.
